The weather has been freezing cold in Toronto this winter and I’ve been struggling to keep my fingers warm while waiting for the streetcar. Mittens are my preferred accessory for keeping hands warm, but they don’t allow me the freedom to text. The other day while waiting in the bus terminal, I looked beside me and saw a guy with your standard dollar store gloves, but he had cut the fingers off to allow him to text. At first glance, the gloves kind of looked like they belonged to a homeless guy, and to be honest if the guy wasn’t as well dressed as he was I probably wouldn’t have given it any more thought. But he made them look edgy and cool and I wanted to get myself a pair. When I went to the dollar store and saw the wide variety there was in terms of color options I was inspired to take it a step further. I had a bunch of old broken jewellery at home and I decided I would bejewel my new texting gloves!
Materials:
Dollar store gloves or Texting gloves
Old broken jewellery
crazy glue
scissors
First, lay gloves down on a flat surface.
Using scissors or pliers, breaks apart the pieces you wish to use to decorate your gloves.
Lay the pieces onto the glove and plan out your design before gluing!
Put the glove on your hand, to ensure the fabric is stretched out and fit to your hand. Crazy glue the pieces you wish to use and press down firmly.
When you are happy with your design remove the gloves from your hands and cut off the finger tips with scissors.
Put the gloves back on your hands and measure that the fingers are appropriate lengths, whatever is comfortable for you. You may have to cut the middle finger and pinky some more to make it look even.
